Mentoring at the intersection of data and product

BIOS founder and CEO Margarita Pirinen has joined the eighth cohort of the international mentoring programme Mentor in Tech. She will work with participants in Data Science and Product Management.

This combination reflects a practical challenge facing technology teams: a strong model or analysis becomes a product only when it is connected to a real user problem, clear quality criteria, responsible use of data and a sustainable implementation process.

At BIOS, Margarita leads the strategy and development of the digital health ecosystem, from researching the needs of patients and doctors to product architecture, hypothesis testing and medical AI. This experience will inform her individual work with mentees.

What participants can work on

Mentoring is not a substitute for a ready-made course and is not a set of universal tips. Its value lies in examining a specific professional situation together, choosing the next step and testing the reasoning behind a decision.

In Data Science and Product Management, the focus may include:

  • moving from a technical idea or research hypothesis to a product problem;
  • selecting metrics and criteria that help a team understand the value of a result;
  • prioritisation, working with uncertainty and testing hypotheses without unnecessary development;
  • collaboration between analysts, developers, domain experts and business teams;
  • professional positioning and role development within a product or data team.

The individual plan is built around the mentee’s current level, goal for the programme and the context in which decisions need to be made.

How Mentor in Tech 8.0 works

Mentor in Tech is a free mentoring programme run by Women in Tech Russia and Women in Big Data. The eighth cohort runs from 10 October 2026 to 10 February 2027.

Participants take part in one-to-one mentor–mentee meetings, group mentoring and masterminds, topical webinars and chats for professional networking and knowledge exchange. The programme covers 12 areas, from Data Science, software development and cybersecurity to product, project and IT team management.

According to the programme’s official website, applications for the current cohort closed on 25 September. New cohorts, events and materials are announced on the Mentor in Tech website and the official Telegram channel of Women in Tech.

Why BIOS supports professional mentoring

Building technology products requires more than knowledge of individual tools. Teams must connect data, user journeys, industry constraints and their own work into one system. Practical experience is especially valuable in this transition from a set of skills to responsibility for outcomes.

For BIOS, participation in Mentor in Tech continues its work at the intersection of technology, science and product thinking. The company develops solutions for patients, doctors and researchers and wants more specialists to be able to build useful, verifiable data-driven products.
