How to give a doctor access to your data

How to choose which data to share and for how long, send an invitation to a doctor and revoke access at any time.

At a glance

  1. 01

Email and a personal link are simply ways to deliver an invitation; permissions depend on the selected data and duration.

  2. 02

Access starts once the doctor accepts the invitation and ends automatically on the chosen date.

  3. 03

You can revoke a pending invitation or active access; actions are recorded in the history.

What to check before inviting a doctor

Make sure you have selected the right person and a clear purpose: preparing for a consultation, reviewing a case or monitoring under a protocol. Review the data to be shared and exclude anything unrelated to the task. Data minimisation helps both patient and doctor: less irrelevant context makes it easier to focus on the question.

Check the duration. A one-off consultation does not require indefinite access. If you continue working together, you can grant new access separately.

Email or link

You can send an invitation to the doctor's email or share a personal link. The delivery method does not change the permissions. The doctor cannot see your data until they accept: the link confirms an invitation, rather than disclosing your medical record.

Do not forward the link to a public chat, and check that the email address is correct. If the invitation reaches the wrong person, revoke it immediately in the list of pending invitations.

How to manage active access

Your account shows the expiry date, available context and permission status. Access ends automatically on the chosen day. You can revoke it earlier; subsequent attempts by the doctor to view restricted data should then be blocked.

Revocation does not delete medical documents or erase mandatory activity history. It ends further access under that permission. If you need to continue working together, create a new permission with a new duration and data selection.

What to prepare for a consultation

Access alone is not enough for a productive conversation. Formulate your question, check recent documents and note important changes in how you feel. BIOS can help build a brief timeline, but the doctor makes the final decision after assessing the available data and clinical situation.
