How to add a relative
Start with close relatives for whom you have verifiable information. Enter a name or clear label, the relationship and basic dates if known. Before creating an entry, check whether the person is already in the tree — duplicates make the family structure harder to understand accurately.
You can invite a relative to BIOS or create a manual entry. In the first case, the person manages their own account; in the second, only the information you enter is stored.
How to correct relationships
If a relationship is wrong, edit it rather than creating another entry. For a complex family structure, first check parents and children, then add other branches. The system should describe the direction of the relationship in clear language.
Changes to the tree must not move documents between people. After merging duplicates, check how each fact's source is labelled.
How to add family medical history
Record only what is actually known and indicate your level of certainty: documented, reported by a relative or approximate. Do not turn family history into a diagnosis for the user.
The tree helps identify whom to ask for clarification and which questions to prepare for a doctor. It does not calculate individual genetic risk without appropriate data and professional interpretation.
Family information privacy
Tell relatives what information about them you are storing. Do not add unnecessary contact details or documents. Connecting an account, viewing medical data and acting as a representative each require separate rules and permissions; a family relationship alone is not enough.
